Ariel’s New ‘Do

If you’ve ridden Ariel’s Undersea Adventure before, then you’ll surely recognize her soft serve ice cream hair from the “Under the Sea” extravaganza scene. Well, I hope you bid a fond farewell to it the last time you were there cuz it’s gone now.

I always thought it looked pretty weird, but it’s one of those things where you don’t say anything cuz you don’t wanna be the only one who points something out like “Ariel’s hair looks weird here,” when you know the Imagineers spent years developing this attraction so surely they all sat down and talked about what her hair would look like in this scene and it all made sense to them so why would the opinion of Adam Rucker matter?

Whew, that was a long sentence!

Anyway, it’s gone now. Replaced with a much more reasonable look that won’t induce long winded thoughts like the one included above.

  1. My little sister tells me that Ariel’s hair is like this because in a DVD she has, Ariel mistakes some gadget that fell from Eric’s ship as a hair curler and she tries to curl up her hair with it…not sure just how accurate that is though :)

  2. If they had been able to make the ‘vortex’ affect better than the ‘soft serve’ hair would have made more sense. It was supposed to be the scene in Under the sea were fish swim around Ariel and create this small ‘vortex’. But as it was it just looked like she was going for a Marge Simpson look I prefer the new do.

  3. I never thought her hair looked weird or anything.. your supposed to be ‘under the sea’ at that point in the attraction, so the floating, twisty hair made perfect sense to me.

  4. The first hairdo had nothing strange. It was directly taken from the film. Of course, the overall effect was weird but i’m sure if the imagineers add some bubble effects, real ones this time, things will look more credible, as if you really were under the sea.
